Pottery is Life for Vermillion Artist

VERMILLION, S.D.—Anthony Millette, a fine arts graduate from the University of South Dakota, left the science lab for the potter’s studio. There, he combines science and art to create pottery for everyday use.

“When I make a set of something, I try to make it more of a family than a set, I think it’s very important in this day and age that with so many throw away things that you have something that’s a little bit more important. You drink your coffee out of a styrofoam cup every day and you throw it away I’d like to say that you can enrich that experience greatly if you have a cup that means something, feels right to you. It can enrich everyday life.”

The Sioux Falls resident plans pursue his master’s degree on the USD campus in the hopes of becoming a teacher. His pieces are featured at the Coffee Shop Gallery in Vermillion.
