My dear Chipsters,

These are tough days in newsrooms. Can we use this space to offer wise words and support to each other?

What advice do you have for newsroom staffers whose jobs are secure, but who are emotionally torn up by what’s happening around them?

and/or

What advice do you have for your colleagues who have lost or may be about to lose their jobs?

Please sign your post with your full name.

Many thanks,

Election Night On The Web

November 6, 2008

The news of President-Elect Barack Obama’s win came both online and on air Tuesday. Cable television and the major networks broadcast the news and speeches that followed. Newspapers from The New York Times (or nytimes.com) to The Argus Leader in Sioux Falls, South Dakota (argusleader.com) published and broadcast online.
Election 2008 was the first election in 20 years that I watched. For 20 years I photographed, recorded, edited and directed multimedia coverage of elections at newspapers in Missouri, South Dakota and Indiana.
Tuesday night I watched the drama of election night on four broadcast stations and more than 20 news websites. Multimedia was front and center online election night. Nearly every website I visited had an interactive election map on the home page. Many newspapers did live video broadcasts on their websites using a free live streaming service called Mogolus.
Just after 10 p.m. Tuesday I grabbed snapshots of many news homepages. The gallery below has more than 60 homepage snapshots. To view the gallery click on the image. Enjoy.
